Procida
Procida is reached from Maricelle Rooms via Naples or Pozzuoli: there is no direct ferry from Castellammare di Stabia. You travel to Naples (or to Pozzuoli, the closest port) by train and from there take the hydrofoil — about 40 minutes from Naples or 25–40 from Pozzuoli; about 1.5–2.5 hours in all. It is the little pastel island of the Gulf, Italian Capital of Culture 2022.
Procida is the simplest, brightest day out in the Gulf: a compact island of pastel houses and fishing boats. For our guests, the thing to remember is that you set off from Naples (Molo Beverello) or Pozzuoli, not from the port of Castellammare: you reach the port first by train and then board the hydrofoil. In half a day you are already among the lanes of Corricella.
Marina Corricella and Terra Murata
The heart of Procida is Marina Corricella, the little fishing harbour where the houses climb above the water in a palette of pinks, yellows and blues — a car-free village to wander on foot. Above it rises Terra Murata, the old fortified village with the Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo, from which the eye takes in the whole Gulf. It is the island of the films Il Postino and The Talented Mr. Ripley: small, authentic, made to be taken slowly.
