Boscoreale, the Antiquarium and the wine villa
Boscoreale, with its Antiquarium and Villa Regina, is ~10 km / ~20 minutes by car from Maricelle Rooms, in Castellammare di Stabia; by public transport the connection is indirect (~55 minutes with changes), so we recommend the car. It is part of the Parco Archeologico di Pompei (a UNESCO site).
For our guests Boscoreale is the most unexpected stop in the Vesuvian area: a quarter of an hour from the B&B by car, it tells the story of the Roman countryside around Vesuvio โ farming, wine, everyday work. It pairs well with Pompei or the Scavi di Stabia on the same loop, then it is home again to the Gulf of Naples.
The Antiquarium and Villa Regina
The Antiquarium Nazionale di Boscoreale tells the daily life and economy of the Roman Vesuvian countryside: farming, winemaking, crafts and finds from the area โ not the famous Boscoreale silver treasure, which is kept at the Louvre (its frescoes are split between the Met in New York, the MANN in Naples and the Louvre). A short distance away, Villa Regina is the only Boscoreale villa open to visitors: a rustic wine-producing farm, with the cellar of eighteen dolia and the torcularium where the grapes were pressed. Boscoreale belongs to the Parco Archeologico di Pompei and is covered by the 3-day combined ticket with Pompei, the Scavi di Stabia and the Museo Archeologico di Stabia.
Getting there
By car (recommended)
By car it is about 10 km / 20 minutes from the B&B: the most direct way, since Boscoreale lies inland in the Vesuvian countryside. Handy for combining the visit with Pompei or the Scavi di Stabia on the same day. To reach the B&B, see how to reach Maricelle Rooms.
By public transport
By public transport the connection is indirect: Circumvesuviana plus a bus or a change, about 55 minutes in all. Possible, but slower โ if you can, the car remains the better choice.
