Pompeii Archaeological Park, 15 minutes by train
The Parco Archeologico di Pompei is 8 km / 15 minutes by Circumvesuviana train from Maricelle Rooms, in Castellammare di Stabia. Buried by the eruption of Vesuvio in 79 AD and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, the ancient Roman city remains one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world.
For our guests Pompei is an effortless day out: hop on the Circumvesuviana in Castellammare di Stabia and a quarter of an hour later you are at the gates of the excavations โ no car, no fuss. Spend the day in the streets of the ancient city, then come home to the Gulf of Naples for dinner.
What to see at the Pompei excavations
Among the frescoed houses, the Forum, the Amphitheatre and the casts that froze the moment of the eruption, Pompei tells the story of Roman life like nowhere else. Allow 3-4 hours for a thorough visit. Pompei belongs to the same archaeological circuit as Ercolano and Vesuvio: the 3-day combined ticket also covers the otium villas of the Scavi di Stabia and the Museo Archeologico di Stabia โ ideal if you are staying nearby.
How to reach it from Maricelle
By train (Circumvesuviana)
From Castellammare di Stabia station, the Circumvesuviana reaches the Pompei Scavi stop in about 15 minutes. It is the easiest way to go: no parking, no traffic. Full details are on our how to reach Maricelle Rooms page.
By car
From the A3 motorway, take the Pompei exit; it is about 8 km from the B&B by car. On busy days the train is still the better choice, as the car parks around the excavations fill up early.
On foot inside the site
You explore the park entirely on foot, over ancient paving and cobbles: comfortable shoes, water and a hat in summer make the visit far more enjoyable.
