Sorrento, the gateway to the Gulf, 25 minutes by train

Sorrento is 15 km / 25 minutes by Circumvesuviana from Maricelle Rooms, in Castellammare di Stabia. Perched on the cliffs among lemon groves and sea, it is the town of limoncello and artisan workshops, and the gateway to Capri and the Amalfi Coast.

For our guests it is an easy, carefree day out: you board the Circumvesuviana a few steps from the B&B and reach Piazza Tasso in twenty-five minutes. Sorrento is also the ferry hub, so many guests use it as a springboard to Capri and the coast, returning to the Gulf of Naples in the evening.

What to see in Sorrento

The heart of the town is Piazza Tasso, from which you descend to Marina Grande, the old fishermen's quarter on the water. The lanes are full of limoncello and inlaid-wood workshops, while from the Villa Comunale gardens your eye runs across Vesuvius and the whole Gulf. Sorrento is also the natural base for boat trips along the peninsula.

Getting there

By train (Circumvesuviana)

From Castellammare di Stabia station, the Circumvesuviana line to Sorrento reaches the terminus in about 25 minutes. It is the simplest, cheapest option and drops you a few steps from the centre. See also how to reach Maricelle Rooms.

By car

By car you follow the SS145 Sorrentina along the coast, about 15 km from the B&B; the road is scenic but can be busy in summer, and parking in the centre is limited. For a day trip the train is still the easiest choice.
